Over 350 participants enjoyed a great day on Park Trails, listening to great music, particpating in a Backwoods Oreinteering short course, and enjoying children activities. Thanks to Triangle Off Road Cylists (TORC) for the Tour de TORC guided bike rides and Carolina Godiva Track Club for race timing!!
Thanks to all for supporting William B. Umstead State Park. We raised over $17,000 that will go towards land acquisition, invasive plant control, and environmental education for your wonderful State Park.

WHAT: Choose between a 4 mile Walk/Run
on a Park trail,
a 4-mile beginner mountain bike tour, or a 10-mile intermediate mountain bike
tour. Enjoy live music along the trail
and on the main stage. A community event
for the appreciation, use, and preservation of William
B. Umstead State Park. Funds raised will be used for
controlling invasive plants, protecting native wildflowers,
environmental education, and land acquisition.

* Backwood Orienteering Klub will treat those interested in a 15-minute “Introduction to Orienteering” class and then a course will be open for you to try. Bring your own compass. Compass can be rented for $5 deposit. Note: If you want to buy one of the new Backwood Orienteering Klub maps, we will have them for sale ($10 non-laminated and $12 laminated) at the T-shirt sale table by the registration table. If there is interest, the class will be offered again.

RAFFLE: We have a raffle for 4 tickets on May 29 to the NC Carolina Ballet performance of the Beauty and the Beast!! $5 for 1 chance; $10 for 3 chances. Tickets were donated by Celito.net.
PLEDGES: Additional funds raised for William B. Umstead State Park can be brought to event, or mailed-in afterwards. The top fund raiser will be a special gift from Great Outdoor Provision Company. The 2nd and 3rd highest fund raiser will each receive 2 tickets to the May 29th NC Ballet Beauty and the Beast.
CHILDREN ACTIVITIES: Live owls from American Wildlife Refuge, Craft booth with Scrape Exchange, kid tattoos (butterflies, dragonflies, etc), Park Ranger with stuffed animals that live in the Park.
For the 4th year: “Tour de TORC” for novice
and advanced riders. These will be guided rides, not
a race! You need to provide your own helmet and bike
(fat tires recommended). Maximum of 100 bike registrants
- Register Early!
Race timing by Carolina Godiva Track Club. Official timing
will continue for 1 hour; race clock will continue for self timing until ~11:15am.
REQUESTED DONATION: $25 adults
($15 children age 12 & under).

Includes Walk/Run/Bike,
T-shirt, live music, snacks, door prizes, free
gifts from Great Outdoor Provision Company, Inside-Out
Sports and more. Specatators free of charge.
Registrations will be accepted up to the day of the
event. To guarantee a T-shirt size, registration must
be received by April 12. All walkers/runners/bikers
get a numbered bib.
WHERE: A private farm on Reedy
Creek Road next to William B. Umstead State Park. The
Walk/Run/Bike route starts and ends at the meadow and goes
along the gravel multi-use trail in Umstead State Park.
On-Site PARKING (very limited entry/exit between 9:15-9:50am for safety of bikers/runners). If biking or running, please try to arrive by 9am. Turn onto Reedy Creek

Blue Ridge Road across from N.C. Museum of Art, Raleigh.
Car pooling is encouraged. NO PARKING PERMITTED ON REEDY

We will have a designated place where you can lock your bike on site.
TEAMS are 5 or more registered individuals (you can
have as many team members as you’d like – see
below for awards). Members of teams can register and
pick up packets together or individually. BUT, each
individual registration form must state the team name.
EXCEPT: Teams are also allowed to register on event-day only if they hand in
registration and pledges for the entire team in one
envelope.

EVERYONE who raises more than $50 will receive

worth 10% of amount raised. Raise $50, receive $5 gift
certificate; raise $500 get a $50 gift certificate;

Award is named in honor of the late Ted Mew, a long-term

SCHEDULE Saturday, April 18

capped for trail safety; bikers provide their own bikes
(fat tires recommended) and helmets. 3-mile route,~12.4-mile route (routes subject to change based upon conditions)
9:45 am. Walk/Run. 4-miles.
Live music on the Park trail. Runners/walkers eligible for finishing awards,
must complete entire 4 mile route.
4-mile route.
Course: Runners will be allowed
to line up at the front of the start. The route starts
and finishes at Walton’s pasture, goes along
Reedy Creek Road before entering Umstead State Park.
The route follows the Reedy Creek multi-use Park trail
(gravel) past Reedy Creek Lake until the 2 mile turn-around
and returns same route. Course mileage will be marked
every ½ mile and at the turn around (if you
choose). Splits will be called at the 1 mile and 2
mile turn around.
If you are enjoying the Park and the music, you may
turn around at any point; we ask you to return to the
meadow by noon. HOWEVER: fastest finisher
awards are only for 4 mile finishers – you must
get a ticket at the 2 mile turn-around and give to
the volunteers at the finish line to prove you ran
the entire 4 miles.

The trail is gravel. Fruit & water, aid stations,
and music along the trail will be provided until noon.
All walkers/runners/bikers must wear the bib on shirt
front and return to the meadow by noon. Bikers must
stay behind TORC leader and in front of safety sweeps.
All donations are tax-deductible. Receipts available
upon request at the event-registration desk.
Family event (alcohol not allowed). Baby carriages
OK, but must be suitable for use on gravel trail and
grass pasture.
Dogs welcome, must be kept on lease. Bring your 'poop bag' (we will also provide some at the site).
All donations go to support Umstead State Park.
Funds raised from this year’s event will go toward
land acquisition, protection of wildflowers, controlling
invasive plants, and environmental education.
VOLUNTEERS. We are still looking
for VOLUNTEERS to help with Advanced registration
events, site set-up (Thursday and Friday), and event
day. A great idea for Community Service.
