We will have eclipse viewing glasses donated by Friends of State Parks.  Because the sun cannot be viewed directly without eclipse glasses (your pupils will be dilated and your retina will receive permanent damage), everyone who wants to watch it's progress will need these special glasses. And, we will have a telescope with a solar lens.

You will need to pre-register to guarantee glasses.  You can sign-up your family members by indicating the number guests.

Please try to car pool so everyone has a parking space.

Schedule:

11am-1pm.  Safely view the sun through a telescope with a solar filter.  See sun spots and more.  This telescope was purchased by The Umstead Coalition for the education programs at William B. Umstead State Park.

For kids of all ages:  temporary tattoos and star-themed crafts

1:16pm Start of eclipse

2:44pm Maximum for Raleigh (94%)

4:06pm End (duration 2hr 49 minutes)

Considering bringing:  lunch and/or snacks, water bottles; chairs

We will provide: Cold lemon-aid and water

Allow time to park and get your glasses. We will start handing out the glasses at 11am for those with confirmed registrations.
